CWB - Canadian Wheat Makes it Good

Feeding the world....one grain at a time

Nutrition

Grains are wholesome and nutritious

Canada Food Guide says that grains are one of the four essential food groups. The guide recommends that, depending on age and gender, children need between three and six servings of grain a day, teenagers need six to seven, and adults need six to eight.

  • White flour is fortified to contain a good source of many essential vitamins and nutrients, such as niacin (vitamin B3), thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), folic acid and iron. Whole wheat is also a source of dietary fibre and many essential minerals.
  • White flour is almost fat free. It contains approximately 73 per cent carbohydrates, 13 per cent protein, and 14 per cent moisture.
  • Wheat grown in Western Canada is considered one of the safest food sources in the world. Good farming practices, strict grading standards and cleaning procedures during shipping, storing and milling combine with quality monitoring from the Canadian Grain Commission to create an extremely safe and reliable food source.

Whole grains

Whole grains contain all three parts of the grain kernel: the bran, which is filled with fibre, the endosperm, which contains carbohydrates for energy, and the germ, which is rich in vitamins and minerals.
