Wheat is used in making a large number of foods. It is a good choice at every meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is the main ingredient in bread, pasta, noodles. Wheat is also used to create treats, including many types of cookies, cakes and muffins. Snacks such as pretzels are also made from wheat. |

Wheat is a grain. Grains are part of the grass family, and contain a kernel. Other types of grain are barley, oats, and rye. |

Most wheat grown in Canada is grown by farmers in the three Prairie provinces: Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. |
|
Farmers use a lot of high-tech equipment and machines to plant, grow, and harvest wheat. Wheat is harvested using a combine. It is called a 'combine' because it combines several separate tasks. This machine cuts the wheat stock low to the ground, collects the kernels and deposits the rest of the plant outside the combine as straw. |

Wheat grown on the Canadian prairies is considered so good that more than 70 countries around the globe use it to create their own breads, pastas, noodles and baked treats. |
