Midge emergence maps

The map provides an indication of the range of accumulated wheat midge Degree Days (DD) since March 1st. Field scouting should be intensified as the 10% threshold ranged is reached. Based on the DD emergence thresholds you should expect to see emergence patterns as follows:

Commentary

This is the final update for the 2009 wheat midge DD mapping tool.

Wheat midge emergence should now be complete across the prairies based on accumulated DD.

This site will be updated as the 2009 fall harvest survey and 2010 risk forecast maps become available. All the best for a successful harvest season.

These maps are not intended to replace in field scouting in order to assess local conditions. Farmers should monitor their fields during heading and flowering for the presence of adult wheat midge.
