Grasshopper information

Grasshopper populations have been increasing across the southern Prairies in recent years. For cereal crops, once populations reach the moderate risk level (8 to 12 per square metre), you should consider applying pesticide control. Cereals at earlier development stages are at greater risk of damage.

As grasshoppers advance in development, they become more difficult to control and pesticide costs increase. Refer to provincial recommendations on monitoring and control of grasshoppers.
