Marketing through the CWB

What you need to market your grain through the CWB:

  • Delivery permit – You must apply for or renew your delivery permit each year. A valid delivery permit is required to deliver grain. The delivery permit is valid from August 1, 2011 to July 31, 2012. A CWB 10-digit producer ID number and four-digit personal identification number (PIN) are created with approved new delivery permit requests. You will need these two numbers to conduct business with the CWB.

New farmers (never have delivered CWB grains) – There are three ways to create a new delivery permit:
  • Delivery contract – A delivery contract specifies the type, grade and quantity of grain you want to deliver. It becomes a binding contract when accepted by the CWB. The CWB has many types of delivery contracts available. You must have a CWB delivery contract signed up before receiving a cash ticket for grain delivered to an elevator. View more information on delivery contracts.
  • Contract calls – A contract call is your green light to deliver to the elevator of your choice. The CWB 'calls' the grain for delivery systematically throughout the pool year to correspond to sales and transportation opportunities. View more information on contract calls.
  • CWB 10-digit producer ID number - A CWB 10-digit producer ID number is assigned to each farmer who appears on a delivery permit. You retain your CWB producer ID number indefinitely, unless your farming operation changes. View more information on CWB producer ID numbers.
  • Four-digit personal identification number (PIN) – Your PIN protects your privacy and the integrity of your business transactions. It's your electronic signature that lets the CWB know you are who you say you are when you call. View more on PINs.

Pricing options

  • Pooled payments are paid in installments over the course of the crop year. You receive an initial payment when you deliver to the elevator. The initial payment represents a portion of the total expected value of the grain. When market circumstances warrant, you may also receive adjustment, interim and final payments. View more information on payments.
  • Pool Return Outlook (PRO) is a projection of how much money the CWB will return to you when you deliver wheat, durum or barley for payment through the pool accounts. PROs are issued monthly. View more information about the PRO including the latest PRO issued .
  • Producer Payment Options (PPOs) are pricing options for farmers who prefer more flexibility in managing their risk and cash flow. There are a number of PPO options available. View more information on CWB PPO programs. When delivering your grain, it is important to tell elevator staff whether you are delivering into the pool or against a PPO contract and to provide your PPO contract number.
