Selected Barley Storage and Delivery contracts
What is it?
Farmers offer malting barley to grain companies using the Selected Barley Storage and Delivery Contract (SBSDC).
What does it offer?
- Delivery periods are pre-December 31, January to February, March to April and May to July.
- Storage is paid from December 1, 2011 or contract acceptance date, whichever is later, to the delivery date.
- Storage rates are five cents per tonne per day for the first 90 days and nine cents per tonne per day over 90 days.
- The minimum delivery requirement is 95 per cent.
- Liquidated damages rates are based on full replacement value.
- No storage will be paid on selected barley that is rejected upon delivery. However, you can individually negotiate this type of premium directly with the grain company as part of your terms and conditions.
Only malting barley varieties with the best quality are selected for marketing as malting barley. The remainder is used as feed barley. When selected barley is rejected for any reason, the CWB may agree to purchase the barley from you as feed barley if marketing opportunities are available. Please contact us at 1-800-275-4292 to discuss the options, as Guaranteed Delivery Contract opportunities may be limited.
Malting barley protein payments
This program enables producers who grow two-row barley to receive a premium payment when barley is accepted and delivered as malting barley. Click here for further information on protein payments and the participating industry partners.
CashPlus
CashPlus is a cash-buying program that offers farmers an upfront, market-based cash price for their malting barley. Producers can sign up for a Guaranteed Price Production Contract before the start of the crop year. Guaranteed Price Contracts are sign after harvest.
CashPlus works as a three-way transaction. The CWB negotiates sales price and volume with selecting companies and establishes a guaranteed in store price for farmers.
The CWB guaranteed price will vary in response to market conditions and CWB sales.
