Malting barley CashPlus contract program
What is it?
- This cash-buying program offers you an upfront, market-based cash price for your malting barley.
- A CashPlus contract is a three-way contract between the CWB, you and the selecting company.
What does it offer?
- This contract program offers you a guaranteed in store price for your malting barley. The CWB negotiates the guaranteed sales price with the selecting companies.
- You have the flexibility to negotiate premiums and discounts, including freight and elevation/cleaning back off, before establishing the net price for your contracted grain at a primary elevator.
- At the discretion of the processor, CashPlus contracts may be available for both the pre-harvest (production) and post-harvest periods.
- The CashPlus program offers you the potential for a premium payout at the end of the year. This premium is derived from any market spreads between the upfront guaranteed cash price and actual CWB sales returns for malting barley.
- The CWB first negotiates a sales price with the domestic processing companies. Based on the sales price, a guaranteed farmer price for a specific delivery point is calculated. The guaranteed price varies depending on timing, pricing location, market conditions and quality.
- You must then enter negotiations on the three-way contract with a processor. A basis level will be negotiated between you and the processor, which will include price factors such as elevation, cleaning, storage, trucking and quality premiums.
- Upon delivery, the processor will pay you the guaranteed price, adjusted for the negotiated basis.
- CashPlus contracts are not eligible for future adjustment, interim or final payments, Producer Payment Options and additional protein.
- For more information, farmers can contact the CWB at 1-800-275-4292 to inquire about current contract availability.
Calculating your replacement costs
If you find yourself in default of your CashPlus contract, you may be subject to liquidated damages. Liquidated damages are calculated using several components which can include replacement, administration and demurrage costs.
In an effort to make the process more transparent the CWB posts historical pricing information so that you can assess one component - replacement values.
